Utzon Center, Aalborg

The alternative Christmas Tree

Utzon Center is the last building to be designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon (1918 – 2008) and is located on the Limfjord Waterfront in Aalborg, the city he spent his childhood and youth. Completed in 2008 in collaboration with his son Kim Utzon, the center is the Nordic center for architecture and design. Exhibitions focus on current themes in architecture and design and as originally planned the center is a meeting point for students of architecture. The alternative Christmas Tree created by GRID was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), with lighting design by Steensen Varming and as part of Skys the Limit Exhibition in 2016.
